Also known as U Racks, these in their general term are basic enclosures used to house mainly communications equipment such as servers, routers and modulator/demodulator units. The U denotes the height of the rack, or the maximum number of “Units” [Servers] the rack can vertically hold. The 19” mark denotes the standard width of the Rack. The wall mounting versions are used mainly for intermediate communication units such as sub servers.
Used for the same purposes as the wall mounting racks, free standing racks are used in heavy duty requirements such as in Server rooms or Main GSM switch rooms. Any requirement which exceeds the 21U denotation [more that 21 no’s of standard Server units fixed vertically], will use a Free standing rack.
